The hunt for people who fatally drove over Joanne Wang after snatching her handbag in a Manukau carpark continued yesterday - but police say they have no real suspects at this stage.
The 39-year-old died in hospital after being knocked down at Manukau Westfield on Monday afternoon, just moments after the passenger of the fleeing 4WD had stolen her handbag.
Her 8-year-old son was with her when her bag was taken from the central console of her car. He also saw his mother being struck down by the 4WD.
Detective Inspector John Tims said police interviewed the boy yesterday. He was still struggling to cope with his mother's loss but was being supported by family and Victim Support.
The 4WD that hit Mrs Wang was found burned out in a secluded corner of the Manukau Sports Bowl carpark on Wednesday, minus her handbag.
Police are now awaiting the results of forensic tests to see if the badly damaged vehicle will yield any clues as to who was in it.
The 4WD - which was stolen from a Glen Innes workplace on Monday - was set alight about 1km away from both Westfield and Mrs Wang's home.
Following the discovery of the vehicle, police focused their inquiries on a road adjacent to Mrs Wang's home. Up to a dozen officers questioned residents about whether they had seen the white 4WD in the street.
One resident believed the stolen vehicle had been parked in the street since Monday afternoon.
Mr Tims appealed for reports of any sightings of the 4WD before it was found.
A growing pile of flowers and handwritten notes has appeared in the carpark where Mrs Wang was hit.
